Bangalore routs Rajasthan in IPL

Spinner Anil Kumble grabbed five wickets for just five runs to help the Bangalore Royal Challengers rout defending Indian Premier League (IPL) champion the Rajasthan Royals by 75 runs at Newlands.

Kumble removed Yusuf Pathan (11), Ravindra Jadeja (11), Shane Warne (3), Munaf Patel (0) and Kamran Khan (3) as Bangalore dismissed Rajasthan for just 58 runs _ the lowest score in the short history of the IPL.

"We bowled well earlier, but the batting wasn't up for it," Rajasthan captain Warne said. "Most of the dismissals were due to poor shot selection. It was very embarassing at the end really,"

Kumble, who has retired from first-class cricket, was delighted with his performance.

"Its great," he said. "You can't ask someone who retired five months ago to go out and bowl a fiver!"

Earlier, Rahul Dravid top-scored with 66 to lift Bangalore to 133-8 after Dimitri Mascarenhas took two wickets in the first over for Rajasthan.

Dravid then steadied the innings, stroking eight fours and a six. He was eventually well caught by Warne off the bowling of Munaf Patel.

Kevin Pietersen was the next highest scorer with 32, while no other batsmen reached double figures.

Mascarenhas was the pick of the Rajasthan bowlers with 3-20, while legendary legspinner Warne took 2-18.

Bangalore took to the field and began positively. Dale Steyn bowled at pace but failed to take a wicket while Kumble stole the show. Praveen Kumar and Jesse Ryder were the other wicket takers with two apiece.

Tyrone Henderson, Pathan and Jadeja were the top batsmen for Rajasthan, with all three scoring 11 runs.
