Apr 19, 2009: Deccan Chargers defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by eight wickets in an Indian Premier League's (IPL) fourth match in Newlands on Sunday.
Chargers got the first blow after skipper Adam Gilchrist got out on 13 runs. Later, Herschelle Gibbs showed his batting might by playing a blistering innings of 43 runs in 26 balls.
Gibbs and Rohit Sharma (36) pilled up quick runs for the team and made a partnership of 69 runs resulted into team's victory.
Earlier, Chris Gayle and former skipper Sourav Ganguly returned to pavilion on meager score of 10 and one run respectively.
Brad Hodge showed some hopes by hitting good knocks, but wickets kept on falling at the other end. Hodge's 33 runs innings helped KKR cross 100-run-mark.
The team's innings ended on a score of 101 runs in 19.4 overs.
KKR's formula of rotating the skipper proved unsuccessful after skipper Brendon McCullum got out on one run and the team lost the match.
R P Singh (Deccan Chargers) was awarded Man of the Match for taking four wickets.
