Gupshup goes in to bat for IPL

Gupshup, an online SMS platform known for free messaging services has tied up with IPL (Indian premier league) teams, has become official promoter of the league.

Considering the fact that IPL is one of the brands that has shown resistance to the current economic downturn, Gupshup team is all excited to start spreading the pre- IPL fever. The games will start from 10th April.

The company primarily operates on two modules, free and corporate module. The IPL platform which is intended to create IPL related communities and further generate craze and hype for the associate teams is seen as a good prospect for growth by the Gupshup team.

Tathagata, Principle product manager, Gupshup, told the Examiner, “We have signed deal with Rajasthan Royals and are in talks with other teams as well. We are confident about our brand as we achieved a subscriber base of 15 million users in just 18months. Our association with IPL might help us increase our user base from 15 to 50 million,” he added.

When we asked how will the IPL module work? Tathagata said, “We will be creating various IPL related communities, which users can join as per their liking. Any update in communities will be disseminated to all group members through SMS. However, unlike our free module where in we attach an advert with our SMS, IPL messages will not have any advertisements.”

The messages disseminated by the company will be in form of contests and quiz, which will further entice a subscriber to revert to the message. The company wants to establish a two-way communication process, where they engage end users to take part. The revenue will be generated from the messages sent by a subscriber.

Considering the popularity of IPL cricket in India, the company is optimistic about the response it will get from its subscribers.
