IPL Profile: Mumbai Indians

Having achieved a 50 percent win record in last year’s Indian Premier League, the Mumbai Indians have a squad of world-class players which is aiming to improve on that record.

The team will be captained by someone who is arguably the best of modern-day batsmen, Sachin Tendulkar.

The “little master” has players like Indian team-mates Harbhajan Singh and fast bowler Zaheer Khan, Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful and Sri Lankan batting legend Sanath Jayasuriya to call on.

South African debutants, batsman Jean-Paul Duminy and allrounder Ryan McLaren, join the team, and retired Proteas bowler Shaun Pollock will take over the reins as coach of the Indians.

Jayasuriya scored the most runs for the Mumbai side last season, with 514 runs in 14 innings at 42.83. His top score was a majestic 114 not out.

India seamer Ashish Nehra picked up 12 wickets in his 14 games to lead the side with the ball.

This franchise is the most expensive in the league, costing 111.9-million, and is owned by Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Limited.
