Karachi: Indian Premier League Commissioner Lalit Modi has promised to consider the Pakistani players' payment row with their respective IPL franchisees, media report said here on Wednesday.
According to a report in 'The News', Modi has sent a mail to the management company representing the Pakistani players in which the IPL chief promised to resolve the issue at the earliest.
"This is certainly a positive development," a source close to some of the cricketers was quoted as saying by the daily.
"After completely ignoring us for so many days, Lalit Modi has finally acknowledged that there is an issue that needs to be settled," he said.
According to estimates, eight of the Pakistani cricketers who featured in the inaugural edition of the IPL in India last year, are awaiting payments of around USD four million from their respective teams.
In his mail, Modi has reportedly promised to take up the issue with the IPL franchisees, which terminated the contracts of Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Yousuf, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi and Salman Butt. The contracts of Sohail Tanveer, Umar Gul, Misbah-ul-Haq and Kamran Akmal were also suspended.
The Pakistani players missed out being part of the second season of the IPL following India's strained relation with Pakistan even though the Twenty20 league was subsequently shifted to South Africa.
Modi's e-mail brought some relief among the Pakistani players, who were worried with the IPL authorities not even replying to their mails earlier, the report claimed.
